Production Ready Private Cloud Templates

About GitLab

GitLab Community Edition (GitLab CE) is open source web-based Git repository manager with wiki and issue tracking features. GitLab’s wiki is also stored in git. GitLab provides a web dashboard with web file browser, filters, activity feeds, and continuous integration features. It also supports such everyday tasks as unified and side-by-side diffs, merge requests for code reviews, line specific comments, and more. Postfix is used for sending email, and email notifications can be setup at a user or global level. Unique permission levels can be configured per user and project (guest, reporter, developer, master, owner). GitLab provides Http(s) and ssh git access. Users can be authenticated using LDAP. GitLab also provides an administrative interface for setting up users and permissions.

Our GitLab Architecture

The RPC GitLab CE solution uses OpenStack Orchestration (heat) and SaltStack formula to deploy GitLab server configured to run on a typical Private Cloud configuration. We have configured GitLab to run seamlessly with Postfix mail delivery.

Design Specifications

  • Uses GitLab salt-formulas to configure the server. One GitLab instance will be deployed, configured with a Postfix server.
  • For access to GitLab server, a floating IP address will be assigned to the salt-master. Additionally, GitLab is on a separate network so that applications can access your GitLab server without being on the same network.
  • Changes to the GitLab configuration can be done using Salt pillars on the Salt master.
